Not
Scholarly?
I discovered a nice little delightful astrology blog today... the
blog's mistress had copied and pasted my article on Mercury retrograde
into her blog.
While,
for many reasons, I prefer that folks not do that sort of thing;
she, however, had done the good karma thing
of giving me credit
and a
link.
Following
my article, she then suggested reading another, "more scholarly"
article on the subject of Mercury retrograde.
I
was devastated... not scholarly? Not scholarly! My article
not scholarly!
According
to Merriam-Webster Online: "characteristic of, or suitable
to learned persons" Hmph...
My
article on Mercury retrograde quotes: an ancient Roman maxim, the
authors Arianna Stassinopoulos (Huffington), psychologist Dr Murray
Stein PhD, psychologist Dr Jean Bolen PhD, and astrologer Richard
Idemon. The article then goes on to discuss the weighty psychological
concept of "honoring the gods" propounded by the esteemed
Swiss psychiatrist and founder of Analytical Psychology, Dr Carl
G Jung MD... and yet my article is not scholarly?
What's
a guy gotta do?
Granted...
I do attempt to piece together a good many of my astrological diatribes
in such a way that they might be construed as being somewhat humorous
and/or entertaining... but not scholarly?
Then
I went on to read the (dry, dull and incredibly tedious) article
that she had considered to be more scholarly... and so I think I'm
becoming more and more comfortable with the misnomer that my articles
are not "scholarly"...
My
best and "most scholarly" professors were those rare breed
capable of synthesizing pedagogical competence with academic expertise.
Yep... they were able to bring life, authenticity, curiosity, and
imagination to the lecture hall...
