about Horary and Electional Astrology
Q. Why
haven't I ever heard of Horary or Electional astrology? And why doesn't
my astrologer offer Horary and/or Electional astrology services?
A. Both
Horary and Electional astrology are very specialized types of astrology
which are very ancient in origin and practice. These methods later
seemed to experience a revival of sorts sometime during the Western
European Renaissance (around the same time as Tarot was being born).
The most famous Horary practitioner of the later English Renaissance
was the English astrologer, William Lilly.
Traditional
Horary and Electional astrology both follow very specific, difficult
to master rules. Most likely your astrologer simply hasn't learned
how to interpret Horary or Electional charts or your astrologer has
chosen not to practice them for some other reason. However, as time
goes by, the good news for consumers is that there are more and more
astrologers that have learned how to do Electional readings.
The specialization
of practicing different types of astrology is no different than any
professional field of endeavor and expertise. Nobody can learn it all.
Take for example, the field of law. In larger cities there are general
practice attorneys who do a little of everything, but there are also
attorneys who tend to specialize in one certain area of law such as
Real Property, Divorce, Bankruptcy, etc..

gives? Why doesn't Electional astrology require your knowing my birth
data?
A. Electional
astrology is a special type of divinatory, oracle astrology that is
based on the quality of the moment at any given moment in time. It's
believed by many that Electional astrology was originally developed
especially for all those folks who didn't know their exact time of
birth. So there are
astrologers, such as myself, that using traditional methods do not
look at and/or use the individual's birth chart.
In traditional
Electional astrology (picking the best time to begin an endeavor) is
based on the birth of an event. With Electional astrology, once the
event occurs, you'll have an event birth chart that can be followed
by watching transits and progressions, in almost the same way your
birth chart can be followed by transits and progressions.
You'll discover
that a fair amount of the astrologers who will pick the best time for
you to begin something new (such as opening a business, getting married,
signing a contract, etc.) are still basing their findings on comparing
transits, progressions, solar arcs, lunar cycles, planetary cycles,
etc. to your birth chart. They are not using the traditional art of
Electional astrology.
At the same
time, in fairness I will mention that there are more and more astrologers
that are combining the traditional techniques of Electional astrology
with
the
comparison
of the birth
chart to choose electional charts. However, I am not one of those astrologers.
Q. In
Electional astrology, you're picking a time for an event to occur?
So is picking this ideal time an absolute guarantee of great success
regarding the event?
A. No. Get
real. Nothing in life, when free will is involved, is an absolute guarantee.
However, in Electional astrology, a chart is calculated to insure that
all the planets are as close to perfect as possible for the starting
of a new endeavor.
Electional
astrology is a wee bit like having a copy of the schedule at a major
metropolitan airport and knowing which airlines have the best reputation
for getting to your destination on time, without losing your baggage.
At any major metropolitan airport, there are planes constantly leaving
from different gates, at different times, and for different destinations.
Electional astrology tells you the best gates and the best times to
leave from for reaching a certain destination. If you're going to Detroit,
then you don't want to get on a plane scheduled to leave for Miami.
If you're going to Detroit, then you'll need to know what time the
plane takes off. If you have a business meeting, then you'll want to
get there on time.
Here's
a concrete example. Let's say you want to plan the best time to "start
writing a book for purposes of making money" and you live
in Nashville, TN. If you give me a one year window (starting
from November 10, 1999),
then the best time for anyone living in Nashville, TN to start
writing a book for money is October 2, 2000 at 2:14am CDT.
If you give me a
two year window, then the best time for anyone living in Nashville,
TN is January 13, 2001 at 9:33pm CST.
If five
different people in Nashville start writing a book at one of the above
mentioned times, some of those five people will be more financially
successful than others. If you have absolutely no talent at writing,
then success may mean your family members will enjoy reading the book
and take you out to dinner to celebrate. If you are an incredibly skilled
and talented writer, then the sky may be the limit (no pun intended)
as to how much money you will make from the completed book.

that the results in the above example will be different according to
the exact purpose of writing the book. Are you writing the book for
money? Are you writing the book for fame? Are you writing the book
for a sense of self-fulfillment?
