Mercury and the Bail Out

On September 24, 2008 at 3:17 am EDT the messenger planet Mercury located in Libra (denoting "choices") went "stationary" in the sky in preparation for going retrograde. In astrology, at the point when a transiting planet goes "stationary" in the sky (in preparation for going either retrograde or direct), it is a time of the planet's greatest potency. Stuff happens.

Later that night at 9:01 pm EDT with Mercury (commerce) still stationary and located in the 6th house conjuncting the planet Mars (action) and quincunx Uranus (surprise, shock) US President George W Bush went before the nation to announce the Economic Pearl Harbor of our generation and the dire need for an immediate massive 700 billion bail out of Wall Street.

Enter several crazy, neurotic, and frantic days of negotiations by suspicious Democrats not willing to give George W Bush any more blank checks... (fool me once, shame on you... fool me twice, shame on me...)

On September 29, 2008 with our nation (and world) appearing to literally be on the brink of economic disaster, conservative House of Representative Herbert Hoover Republicans - fearful of keeping their jobs in the next election, staunchly holding on to their belief in no federal regulations on commerce (that drove our nation to this brink of disaster), and ticked off by an unfortunate last minute diatribe delivered by Speaker Nancy Pelosi - have voted no on the much needed bail out.

Wall Street (with all the good, the bad, and the ugly) is, like it or not, directly linked to Main Street. No one is thrilled about bailing Wall Street out - but when Wall Street falls, Main Street falls.

I'm just old enough that my parents lived through the last Great Depression brought about by Herbert Hoover Republicans, and although my parents and our nation survived it and were eventually made stronger by it... call me crazy, but I don't especially want to live there.

Right now anyone who has a small business or is self-employed is already - in just the past month - beginning to feel the initial squeeze. Credit has already dried up on Wall Street and now it's begun to dry up on Main Street. Next time you need new credit for a car loan, you'll discover the initial squeeze for yourself.

Whether you're for the bail out or against the bail out... whatever your personal politics... no matter who you blame for this crisis... stay tuned, as I'm sure the trickster planet Mercury (along with Mars and Uranus) has plenty more surprises in store for all of us before this is all over...
